You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.
Psalm 23:5 MSG
In Psalm 23:1 we saw that it's the heart of Jesus our shepherd to provide for us and today we are going see what it looks like when He provides for us.
In Psalm 23:5 it tells us that Jesus serves us or provides for us with a six-course dinner in front of our enemies. This shows us that our shepherd's provision isn't scarce but in abundance (more than necessary and more than enough), and it's in the midst of our enemies. God also doesn't just provide for us when it's going well but He also provides for us in the midst of trouble. Looking at the six-course dinner, when someone prepares and serves you a meal, that meal represents their love, their life and their labour. Seeing how much God provides for us in abundance (in this verse) shows us how much we are worth His love, His life and His labour. Let that sink in for a moment. You are worth the love, the life and labour of Jesus. This reminds us of the cross and what Jesus demonstrated and accomplished for us. He loved us so much that He gave His life on the cross for each and every one of us, and His labour or effort gave us eternal redemption and right standing with God - made us accepted and good enough for God (2 Corinthians 5:21). Therefore we can live free from guilt, shame, condemnation, fear and live in boldness and peace and experience all that He has freely given to us.
Think about this for a moment, if God gave His Son to show you that you are worth His Love, His Life and His Labour, will He not give you everything else you need and more?
The verse below shows us the same heart of God our Father.
He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?
