What does the Jesus' Resurrection from the dead mean? Why is the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead so important? (Pause and think about that for a moment before you carry on reading).

IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:1 AMPC

The resurrection is a very important part of what we believe. IF Jesus wasn't raised from the dead, then everything we believe as believers in Jesus is worthless, a lie, a phony... and we can't trust anything Jesus or God is saying (see 1 Corinthians 15:12-20). This also means if Jesus didn't rise from the dead, then you couldn't receive forgiveness of sins, you couldn't be born again and you couldn't have relationship with God. But CHRIST HAS RISEN from the dead and HE is alive and WE ARE ALIVE WITH HIM, which means we can believe what Jesus and God says and that it's The Truth. In Colossians 3:1 it shows us that we have been raised with Him from the dead and that we are raised to new life. What does it mean to be raised to new life? New life means a new identity. Your identity is now no longer that of a sinner, BUT Your new identity as a believer is now holy, blameless, righteous (acceptable to God), victorious and free. Your new identity is sitting at the right that of God with Jesus in Heavenly places. Being seated in and with Jesus in heavenly places means that you are seated in royalty. Your new identity is royalty! Think about that for a moment.

Let's look at another very important part of the resurrection.

Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God].

Romans 4:25 AMPC

Because Jesus was raised from the dead, you have been justified (made right before God, and just as if you never sinned). Justification speaks of your position before God and your relationship with Him. Further in Romans 4:25, we can see that Jesus secured our justification, which means our position in and before God is forever and eternally SECURE. We are forever and eternally safe with God. Romans 4:25 shows us another important part of the resurrection, which is Jesus absolved us from all guilt before God. What does absolve mean? Absolve - to declare someone free from guilt, obligation, or punishment. When you declare something it means that is the actual current state. This shows that your new identity and standing now before God is free from guilt, obligation and punishment. Therefore with God you will never feel guilty, never feel obligated or never feel or experience that He is going to or will punish you, because Jesus took your punishment on the cross. YOU ARE FREE!
