For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC
Who are you? What is the picture you see of yourself?
The answer to this question will determine how you will act, be and respond to circumstances and situations around you. We can see in the above verse that God is not the one that causes us to be fearful, timid or acting cowardly. This is very encouraging, especially with what is happening in the world now with the Corona chaos and amongst other things. Strength, power, peace and freedom does not come from our circumstances or situations. Circumstances are designed to cause you to fear, to be discouraged and be defeated. The spirit that you have been given, that it speaks about in 2 Timothy 1:7, speaks of two things; The Holy Spirit and your identity of who you are in Christ. Today, we only going to look at your identity, who you are in Christ.
The first thing this verse shows you about who you are (your identity in Christ) is power, which means to be capable, strong and powerful. Therefore because of who you are in Christ, YOU ARE CAPABLE, STRONG AND POWERFUL and can overcome any situation or circumstance, No matter what! It's shows you are not timid or afraid of anything that comes against you and you can face anything FEARLESSLY because you know how capable, strong and powerful you are in Christ. The second part of 2 Timothy 1:7 shows you that your identity is love. Your identity is love, speaking of a unconditional love; you have an identity of love all because of who Jesus made you and therefore you are accepted, worthy, good enough and loved. Therefore you don't need to get your value and love from circumstances, situations or other people. This love is also a love that causes you and enables you to love others unconditionally. Lastly it shows you that YOUR IDENTITY IS CALM, WELL-BALANCED, DISCIPLINED AND SELF CONTROL. This means you stay calm no matter how bad circumstances or situations get, your thinking is well balanced and not all over the place and you can control yourself, your emotions, your thoughts and how you respond to things, people or circumstances and therefore people or circumstances don't determine how you respond, react and live.
For you to experience all of this which is already true of you, you just need to believe and receive it by faith(accepting it as what's true about you.) If you struggle to receive it, FAITH WORKS BY LOVE (Galatians 5:6), focus on how much God loves you and what He has done for you and and it will cause faith to raise up in your heart and for you to receive this truth we spoke about today and everything else He has already given to you.
